What does the Bible say about sex in marriage?

Sex inside marriage is far more than physical pleasure. It's a prophetic act. Every time a husband and wife come together, they are proclaiming the Gospel with their bodies: two distinct beings becoming one without ceasing to be themselves, in total self-giving, absolute vulnerability, and mutual pleasure. That's why the enemy attacks the marriage bed so hard. He knows that if he cools the bed, he cools the prophecy. But sex is also spiritual warfare: every act of holy intimacy is a declaration that the covenant still stands. Purity isn't just for singles; married couples are also called to keep the bed "undefiled"—meaning no adultery, but also no selfishness, no pornography, no using sex as a weapon of manipulation, no comparing your spouse to fantasies. The marriage bed is an altar.

Tonight, before any intimacy, pray together bare in spirit (even if you're clothed). Take 2 minutes to consecrate your bed out loud: "Lord Jesus, this bed is Your altar. Cleanse our minds from past ghosts, impure images, or resentments. We want to worship You with our bodies and wage war against the enemy with our unity. Bless this place." Then give each other a 5-minute massage, no expectations, just to reconnect with the other's body as sacred ground.

Jesus, owner of our bodies, restore in us the vision of sex as worship. Forgive us for every time we reduced it to instinct, a bargaining chip, or routine. We consecrate our bed as a covenant altar. May every union be a declaration of war against divorce, coldness, and outside lust. Amen.
