The Sword
Proverbs 21:5 · 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 (NIV)
The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. (Proverbs 21:5) Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:6-7)
The Light
Money isn't dirty, and it isn't a god. It's a servant that needs to be tamed with wisdom. A budget isn't a prison; it's a stewardship map. When a couple doesn't know exactly what they spend, money becomes an invisible master ruling with anxiety. But when both sit down with clear numbers, they stop fighting over what "seems" and start deciding together based on facts. And there's a spiritual secret: shared generosity is supernatural glue. When you set aside a percentage together for the Kingdom—no stinginess, no competition—you're declaring that your God is the Lord, not Mammon. Couples who tithe, give, and bless others together share a partnership that goes beyond finances: they are co-investors in eternity.
The Pact
This week, pull all the bank statements, receipts, and bills. With paper and pen, write three columns: (1) Real monthly fixed income, (2) Fixed essential expenses (housing, food, utilities), (3) Variable expenses (entertainment, subscriptions, treats). Add them up. If column 3 is bigger than what's left of 1 minus 2, make an immediate call: cut or reduce two variable expenses before next month. Then set aside an amount together to give or tithe, even if it's small. Do it that same day.
Rescue prayer
Lord, owner of the silver and the gold, we hand You the finances of this home. Forgive us for every time money was a source of arguments, hiding, or anxiety. Give us wisdom to plan with diligence and generosity to sow with joy. We want to honor You with our goods, trusting that You are our Provider, not our paycheck. Amen.
