Crisis · The Marriage Bed — Intimacy Without Masks
How do you overcome pornography addiction in marriage?
Hidden Addictions (Pornography) and Toxic Fantasies
Diagnosis
Have you found out your spouse secretly uses pornography? Or are you the one hiding an addiction that's draining your real desire and filling your mind with images you can't erase?
The Sword
Matthew 5:28 · 1 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV)
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. (Matthew 5:28) Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. (1 Corinthians 6:18)
The Light
Pornography isn't a "minor visual problem." It's adultery of the heart that consumes the soul, distorts God-designed sexuality, and shreds covenant trust. It turns real people into disposable objects and, worse, turns your spouse into a less exciting option than a screen. If you're the one using it, you're not fighting a habit; you're in a spiritual war against a demon of lust that wants to destroy your marriage, your ministry, and your mind. You can't win alone. You need confession, accountability, and total shutdown of access. If you're the one who discovered it in your spouse, your pain is legitimate. Pornography is a form of infidelity. But restoration is possible if there's genuine repentance, not just regret for getting caught.
The Pact
If you're the addict who hasn't confessed yet: do it today. Say, "I have something to confess to you. I've been using pornography. It's my sin, not your fault. I'm ready to get help. Will you forgive me and walk with me through the healing process?" If you're the wounded spouse: breathe. Your pain is valid, but don't make divorce decisions in the first 72 hours. Demand total transparency (passwords, history, accountability software like Covenant Eyes or Ever Accountable). Together, find a Christian counselor who specializes in sexual addiction. Don't carry this alone.
Rescue prayer
Jesus, our deliverer, the light has entered this dark room. We no longer hide the shame. For the one who has sinned: break them to genuine repentance, snap the chains of lust, renew their mind with Your Word. For the one who has been wounded: heal the trauma of betrayal, remove the images of comparison, give them back their dignity and security. Don't let the enemy use this crisis to destroy the covenant—use it Yourself to purify it. Amen.
