Wounded Healers: The Purpose Behind the Scar

Audio narration — available in the app

2 Corinthians 1:4

who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Reflection

Have you ever looked at a scar on your body and remembered exactly how you got that wound? In marriage, we also carry invisible scars. They are the marks left behind after surviving a season in intensive care, whether it was financial ruin, the loss of a loved one, or a profound crisis between the two of you.

When we are in the middle of that darkness, it is almost impossible to see beyond the pain. It feels like the world has stopped, and we wonder if we will ever breathe normally again. But once the storm passes and the wounds begin to close, we face a crucial decision about what to do with our story.

Marital pain that lacks a purpose almost always turns into bitterness. It is like an infection that, if covered up and ignored, ends up poisoning the heart. We start asking, 'Why did this have to happen to us?', and that unanswered question ultimately wears us down over time.
