Transcendent Legacy: Writing Our History Together

Audio narration — available in the app

Psalm 145:4

One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.

Reflection

Have you ever sat down to think about what people will say about you when you're no longer here? I'm not referring to the funny stories about how you met or how amazing your Thanksgiving turkey turned out. I'm talking about the real, deep, and indelible mark your marriage will leave on this earth. Sometimes we get so rushed paying off debts, changing diapers, or trying to get a business off the ground, that life just becomes a cycle of survival.

The problem is that temporary success is very deceptive. We can manage to have the nicest house in the neighborhood, the newest cars, and the most incredible pictures on social media, but all of that has an expiration date. God's design for marriage is not simply for us to accumulate things to end up exhausted. His plan is for us to build a transcendent legacy that crosses the barrier of time.

Our marriage is a link in a huge chain. Think about this: the spiritual, emotional, and even financial ceiling you are working so hard to build today will be the floor your children and your children's children walk upon. If today you decide to break patterns of pride, arguing, or scarcity, you are paving a pothole-free highway for your descendants.
