Reflection
Imagine you just got home after a chaotic day. The traffic was horrible, your email inbox won't stop blinking, and you feel like stress is breathing down your neck. You walk through the door and, almost on autopilot, your spouse fires off the typical question: 'How was your day?'. Although the intention is good, sometimes that simple question makes us relive all the stress of the day. What if we tried something completely different before using words?
Today I want to talk to you about one of the most underestimated superpowers God gave us for marriage: touch. We are not talking about sexual intimacy right now, but rather that tender and powerful physical connection that serves as an emotional regulator. Think of the human body as an engine that, after a full day of work, is overheated and about to blow a gasket.
Physiologically, when we are under a lot of pressure, our bodies are flooded with cortisol, the stress hormone. We are on the defensive, ready to fight or flight. But science has proven something fascinating that God designed from the very beginning: holding hands, caressing a back, or giving a long hug causes the brain to turn off the alarms and release oxytocin, the hormone of attachment and peace.
