INTIMACY · Day 87

The Healing Power Of A Good Laugh

Audio narration — available in the app

Proverbs 17:22

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Reflection

Have you ever noticed how daily stress can turn our home into some sort of corporate boardroom? Between debts, exhaustion from work, the dishes that magically pile up in the sink, and all our responsibilities, we suddenly walk around the house as if we are about to defuse a bomb. We become rigid, impatient, and we take ourselves way too seriously.

Without realizing it, we lose something fundamental in our marriage: the ability to laugh. And I do not mean a polite, friendly smile, I am talking about that belly laugh that makes your stomach hurt and leaves you gasping for air. That explosive laughter is a direct gift from heaven, a divine defense mechanism against the bitterness, pride, and monotony that constantly try to extinguish the fire of love.

Think about the last few times something went wrong. Maybe dinner burned spectacularly, you got terribly lost driving to a new place, or someone forgot to pay the electricity bill. Our first reaction is usually to point fingers or start a logistical argument. But what would happen if, instead of setting up a court of law, we chose to laugh at our own human clumsiness?
