The Deception of 'Brutal Honesty'

Welcome to our living room, pour your coffee, and let's talk about that famous phrase we have all heard or said at some point: 'This is just who I am, I say things straight up and without a filter'.

We often wear this 'brutal honesty' as if it were a badge of honor. We believe that just because something is technically true, we have the divine right to throw it at our spouse like a brick to the head, right in the middle of an argument over who left the wet towel on the bed.

But here is a pastor's heart speaking to you: honesty without self-control and without love is not a virtue; it is a destructive sin. There is a massive difference between simply discharging our anger to feel a selfish sense of relief, and ministering a truth to restore and love our spouse.
