The Adversary's Tactics: Isolation and Deception

Audio narration — available in the app

2 Corinthians 2:11

"in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes."

Reflection

Imagine a thief wants to break into your house. He isn’t going to ring the front doorbell or smash the living room window in broad daylight while you are both drinking coffee. He will look for the back door, the one you barely use, or he will sneak in at night when you are asleep. That is exactly how our spiritual enemy operates in marriage. He doesn’t start by inviting you to divorce overnight; he silently slips through the cracks of poor communication and isolation.

One of the adversary’s oldest and most effective tactics is using the power of secrecy. He thrives in the dark. He convinces us that it is better not to talk about that small hidden expense, the resentment we harbor over a harsh word our spouse said, or even those silent battles with purity or finances. He whispers that if we tell them, it will start a massive fight, so it is better to stay quiet to 'protect' the peace.

But that is the great deception. Secrecy does not protect human peace; it builds invisible walls between us. What starts as an insignificant thing we avoid mentioning turns into a fortress of isolation. Suddenly, you are sleeping in the same bed, but your souls are miles apart. The enemy knows that a united and transparent couple is invincible, so his goal is to divide you by putting you on separate islands.
