The Act Of Knowing: Renewing Our Covenant

Let's talk about sex without turning red or using awkward euphemisms. When we read that Adam 'knew' Eve, we sometimes think they just shook hands and introduced themselves by a tree. But the Bible uses an infinitely richer Hebrew word here: 'Yada'. It is not a superficial knowledge like saying 'I know your favorite color'; it is something deeply intimate, sacred, and exclusive.

'Yada' means a total discovery, having absolute access to the mind, heart, and body of the other person. It is undressing physically and emotionally without sucking in your stomach, figuratively or literally, and with zero fear of being rejected. In our marriage, physical intimacy is not just a biological need or a chore to quickly check off the Saturday to-do list.

When we analyze it through God's lenses, the sexual act is literally the physical renewal of our marriage vows. Every time we unite in intimacy, we are saying with our bodies and without words what we once stuttered at the altar: 'I give myself to you completely, holding nothing back, and I continue to choose you exactly as you are'.
