Reflection
Do you remember Adam and Eve in the garden? The moment they messed up, their instinct wasn't to run into God's arms seeking help, but to sew fig leaves together and hide behind a bush. As if some poorly glued leaves could hide the disaster.
We do the exact same thing in marriage. When we fail, when we struggle with a temptation, when we make an impulse purchase, or when we look at something we shouldn't on our phones, our 'Adam syndrome' kicks in. We sew leaves of excuses, hide behind pride, and avoid our spouse's gaze.
Why do we hide? For the exact same fear Adam felt: the sheer terror of rejection. We have a thought that terrifies us: 'If my partner sees the absolute worst version of me, if they know what I am battling in my mind, will they still love me or will they run away?'.
