COMMUNICATION · Day 123
Oxygen for the Exhausted Soul
Audio narration — available in the app
Proverbs 16:24
Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
Reflection
The world out there is not exactly an emotional spa. Between the boss who demands things for yesterday, the gridlocked traffic, the kids who seem to have an infinite crying button, and the bills that don't add up at the end of the month, it's easy to come home feeling like we just ran a marathon in lead shoes. When your spouse walks through the door after a day like that, their energy tank isn't just low; it's completely in the red, silently begging for help.
This is where our home has to make a crucial decision: will it be another combat zone or a recharge station? Sometimes, without realizing it, we greet each other with the inventory of what went wrong in the house or the chore list. Instead of offering a sofa and a glass of water, we place extra bricks into the heavy backpack that is already breaking their back.
The word 'encourage' literally means to 'instill courage.' It's not just about throwing out cheap motivational phrases or offering a quick pat on the back. To encourage is to turn your words into pure oxygen for your husband's or wife's suffocated soul. It's seeing that they are drowning under the weight of their failures or insecurities and throwing them a lifeline made of grace and truth.
