Marriage as a Base of Operations

It is very easy and tempting to view our home as the final destination, right? After a long day of traffic, office stress, and dealing with a noisy world, all we want to do is lock the door, throw ourselves on the couch to watch a show, and disconnect from everything. We want our marriage to be a passive refuge, a little bubble where no one bothers us.

However, there is a hidden danger in that excessive comfort that pastor Timothy Keller calls 'relational myopia'. This happens when a marriage becomes so incredibly focused on itself, on paying its bills, painting the living room, or planning vacations, that it completely loses sight of the big picture. A marriage that only looks at itself will sooner or later suffocate from lack of fresh air.

God's design for us is far more exciting. He did not bring us together just so we could manage to pay a mortgage together or have pretty pictures on social media. He united us to be a powerful base of operations, a dynamic team that moves forward and brings light to a world that is desperate for it.
