Looking Outward Together

Genesis 1:28 and 1 Peter 4:10
God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it...' (Genesis 1:28) 'Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.' (1 Peter 4:10)
Reflection
When we first get married, we usually spend a lot of time just looking at each other. The honeymoon phase is all about 'you and me against the world', eating pizza on the couch, and binge-watching shows. But eventually, just looking at each other can start to feel a bit small and routine.
Sometimes marriages get stuck because they think the ultimate goal is just maintaining the house, paying bills on time, and trying not to argue too much. That is like buying a high-end sports car just to sit in the garage and listen to the radio. There is so much more to the original design!
When God created the first couple, His very first instruction wasn't just 'stare into each other's eyes and be happy'. Genesis tells us He blessed them and handed them a joint project: 'Fill the earth and subdue it'. He gave them a mission outside of themselves, a purpose far bigger than just the two of them.
