Holiness or Happiness? Changing the Focus

Imagine going to a fancy restaurant, they bring out your favorite dish, and just as you are about to take the first bite, someone takes your plate away and puts a green spinach and celery smoothie in front of you. That is how today's culture feels when you talk to them about the true purpose of marriage. We have been sold a menu of 'consumer happiness', where my partner exists exclusively to give me butterflies, keep me entertained, and meet my expectations.

That modern lie sounds something like this: 'If I am not happy every day, if I do not feel fulfilled, or if suddenly everything becomes difficult, then surely I married the wrong person.' It is a very dangerous emotional trap. Basically, we have turned our spouse into a product that, if it does not satisfy us, we want to return to the store to ask for a refund or an exchange.

But what if I told you that God designed marriage to make you holy, much more than He designed it to make you happy? Wait, do not be scared! Being 'holy' does not mean walking around the house in a floating white robe and playing a harp. Being holy means maturing, cleaning out our selfishness, and looking a little more like the loving character of Jesus every single day.
