Having Each Other's Backs: The Power Of Intercession

Imagine you are in a military trench and the enemy starts firing. The logical thing to do would be to stand back-to-back to cover each other, right? Well, marriage is very much like that. Every day we face pressures, stress, exhaustion, and invisible battles that wear down our minds and hearts.

Sometimes, instead of having each other's backs, we end up shooting at one another. We see our partner's flaws, we notice they left the wet towel on the bed for the umpteenth time or reacted poorly due to work stress, and our first reaction is passive complaining or constant criticism.

This is where the apostle Paul's advice in Ephesians comes in, urging us to pray 'on all occasions with all kinds of prayers'. He knew that the best combat tactic isn't arguing louder, but kneeling longer. Nobody in the world knows your spouse's weaknesses, fears, and pressures better than you do. That intimate knowledge is not ammunition to criticize, it is your intercession manual.
