Closing Breaches To The Enemy

Ephesians 4:27

and do not give the devil a foothold.

Reflection

Imagine buying your dream home. You install the best alarm system, high-resolution cameras, and deadbolts on the front door. But at night, before going to sleep, you decide to leave the back door wide open and the windows unlocked. It sounds absurd, right? It is like telling any thief, 'Please, come in and take whatever you want.' Well, believe it or not, that is exactly what we often do with our marriage in the spiritual realm.

When we get married, we make beautiful promises and ask God to protect our love. We set the 'alarm' by going to church on Sundays or saying a quick prayer before meals. But throughout the week, without realizing it, we leave small loopholes open. The apostle Paul was very clear when he warned us: 'Do not give the devil a foothold.' That word 'foothold' literally means not giving him a square meter of ground in your house.

The problem is that the enemy of our marriage almost never comes in kicking down the front door. He slides subtly through the windows we leave ajar. What do those windows look like in real life? Sometimes it is that 'little' habit of binge-watching shows or movies that normalize infidelity and deceit, filling our minds with trash and numbing our conscience without us even noticing.
