Catching the Little Digital Foxes

Imagine for a moment that you are in your living room chatting with your wife, and suddenly, a stranger walks in, interrupts mid-sentence, shows you a picture of a neighbor's lunch, and leaves. That would sound absurd and incredibly rude, right? Well, that is exactly what we allow to happen every single night in our homes.

We live in an era where technology is wonderful for connecting with those far away, but it often cruelly disconnects us from the person sitting right next to us on the couch. The notifications, the buzzing of the phone, and the infinite scrolling on social media are not harmless. These apps are expertly designed to hijack our dopamine and keep our eyes glued to a cold light screen, stealing the little free time we have left at the end of the day.

King Solomon wrote about 'little foxes' that ruin the vineyards just as they are blooming. In our marriage, these foxes are not always major scandals or terrible sins. Most of the time, love is silently suffocated by millions of microscopic distractions that fragment our attention and leave us with no energy to cultivate our own vineyard.
