Builder or Gladiator: The Power of Speaking
Audio narration — available in the app
Proverbs 12:18
The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Reflection
God created the entire universe using a single resource: His words. When He said 'let there be light', light tore through the darkness. As beings created in His image, we too possess that astonishing creative power in our mouths. We cannot create stars or oceans, but with our words, we can create the entire atmosphere of our home. Every sentence we speak to our spouse is either building a haven of peace or declaring a war zone.
However, we often forget this power in the daily grind. When we are exhausted after a long day at work, when the house is a mess, or when the bank account stresses us out, it is easy to lose control. In those moments, our tongue becomes the exact revelation of what resides in our heart.
There are two ways to use our words in marriage: as tools or as weapons. When we use our words as tools, we act like expert architects. We encourage our spouse when they feel like a failure, we repair broken trust with a 'forgive me', and we build a healthy identity in them. Tool-words edify, heal, and restore.
