Breaking Strongholds and Generational Patterns

Sometimes we notice that in our marriage we react with a level of anger, fear, or coldness that doesn't seem to make much sense. We wonder where so much bitterness comes from or why we are so terrified of talking about finances or the future. As a counselor, I've seen too many couples think it's just a 'personality trait' or accumulated fatigue, when in reality they are battling something much deeper and older.

Many of us arrive at the altar dragging an invisible suitcase full of heavy baggage inherited from our families. Patterns of divorce, shouting, infidelity, addictions, or simply an emotional distance and coldness we witnessed since childhood. We grow up swearing we will be different from our parents, but without realizing it, when pressure hits our own home, we end up repeating the exact same script.

Do you know what is so revealing? These repetitions are not simple psychological coincidences. The Bible calls them 'strongholds'; they are structures of thought, habits, and attitudes that the enemy has built up over the years in our family lineage. They are lies we have believed as truth, arguing that 'in my family, we have always been explosive' or 'the men in my house are just cold.'
